THE RACE updated 6/23/10

The Race will start at Boiling Springs Campground on  August 7th, 2010.  It will begin at 6:00 AM sharp.  Be prepared for a difficult mountain course with amazing scenery and great companionship.  You will need to be well-prepared for a long day out on the trail, as this event will take many of you over 12 hours to finish.

The Course

The race will be a double out and back starting at Boiling Springs Campground.  You will run to the Silver Creek Lookout tower, then to Road 671, then go back the same way you came.  From Boiling Springs you will head west to Skunk Creek Summit and then North to East Mountain Lookout.  You will run back to Boiling Springs the same way you came.  Runners doing the 50K will do a shorter out and back portion of the Silver Creek Lookout Tower Road and the climb to Skunk Creek Summit.  Please see Course Maps to familiarize yourself with this change of course.

Weather and Conditions

Weather in this section of the mountains can be unpredictable.  However, coupled with the elevation (4000-7600 ft above sea level), I expect a nice day in the backcountry.  This can mean a high temperature of 75oF and a low of 35oF.  Your best bet is to have a little bit of heat training and watch the forecast for Crouch, ID the closer to the race we get.

Aid Stations

All aid stations will be stocked with water, Gatorade, Coca-Cola, and other beverages of my choice.  You pay good money for this race, so I'll make sure you have plenty of yummy morsels to munch on while killing yourself in the process (why DID you sign up for this crazy event?).  Fruit, ginger, salty food, tasty food, and much more awaits you at each aid station.  I don't want anybody DNFing due to an unhappy stomach.

Drop Bags

Drop Bags can be dropped off at packet pick-up the day prior.  I don't want any the day of the race.  If you cannot drop your bag off August 6th, then please contact me. The locations are available on the aid station sheet coming soon.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

  • Create your own bib.  I will ASSIGN race numbers (after registration closes 2 weeks prior), and you, from there, will decorate it as you wish.  The numbers will need to be at least 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide (These dimensions will be for EACH INDIVIDUAL NUMBER), like a normal bib that you would wear  You can do it on a regular piece of paper, which you pin on like a race bib, or you can draw in on the FRONT of the shirt you wear for the race.  It needs to be easily readable by aid station and HAM radio personnel.  If you do not make your own I will make a boring uninteresting one for you.  I will have an award for most interesting bib number :^D
  • Come to the Bowling/Billiards Night!  I am doing this race in C2M style.  Even though you will not get bonus/boner minutes for your participation, you will get an extra day of the Trail Thrasher.  It's up to you.

Pacers updated 6/23/10

You may have a pacer if you are running the 50 miler.  Pacers are allowed from mile 22  to the finish.  I do request that pacers make a donation to Crouch Volunteer Ambulance in return for their job of getting you to the finish.  You may also run with your canine companion from mile 22 to the finish if you so desire.  Please take care of your animal.  They did not pay to get into the race, you did. Your pacer will need to sign a waiver of liability form before they start.  I don't want to be sued!  I will have these available at the start/finish line.

Crew

There are several crew access points along the course.  The more time I spend on the race course the easier I can create directions for your crew to follow.  This section will continue to be updated the closer to the race we get.

Awards

Your entry fee will get you an engraved finisher's award (which will be unique from any ultra you've done) and some cool stuff with your goody bag.  Overall winner awards will likely be donated by some local business (you'll hear more about this soon, I'm sure :^D)

Refunds

Up to July 1st, 50 mile participants will get $65 returned, after that date the amount refunded will be $25.  For 50K participants, you will get $30 returned up to July 1st, then $15 after that.  I reserve the right to hold the money over to next year if unforseen circumstances (fires, snow, aliens attack, etc.) cause us to cancel.  I have an alternate route to use should something this drastic needs to happen.  I will exhaust all possibilities of continuing the race should this happen.  The WIFMER is my child!

The RULES updated 7/06/10

1. NO LITTERING.  This includes biodegradeables.

2. Be able to hear cars on the dirt road portions.  Have ear and eye awareness!

3. No pacers without signing liability form

4. No dogs until the return to Boiling Springs, the halfway point for all runners.

5. No indecent exposure.  Please find a good spot off the trail so you don't horrify an ultra virgin ;^D

6. NO TRASH.  please have a spot on your person or that convenient little pouch on your NathanTM vest to stash your trash.

7. No heckling the RD or making fun of him.  If you do, you'll run the rest of the race with a 15 lb weight attached to your ankle (or you'll be fed to my pet cougar).

8. No stashing aid on the course!

9. No giving up!  At Javelina Jundred this past year, I DNFed at 45 miles.  I lay down for a couple hours afterward, feeling terrible.  One of my buddies showed up and convinced me to go on.  55 miles later. . .

10. GIVE IT YOUR ALL
